DAY 21 | MATTHEW 27-28

Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came up and spoke to them saying, “All authority in Heaven and on Earth has been given to Me. Go therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to follow all that I commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

What a perfect way to end our 21 days of prayer and fasting, by focusing on what is most important in our journey with Christ… leading others to Him! This Scripture is known as the Great Commission, given to the disciples right before Jesus was taken into Heaven. This is the very place in Scripture we get the name of our church… “GO Church”!

This powerful moment of commissioning wasn’t just meant for the disciples back then, but it was meant for all of us believers today! As Christians, we are modern day disciples of Jesus Christ and we are ALL called to GO and continue making more disciples… not just pastors, elders, teachers and leaders. For some of the people we encounter, we may be the only representation of Jesus they see, the only Bible they ever read, and the only grace they encounter. Sometimes we only get one chance to make an impact on them.

Even still, the thought of sharing the gospel can feel really intimidating or even scary to some that have a hard time sharing their faith. But the best part of this passage is when Jesus promises that He will be with us ALWAYS! We have nothing to fear because when He is with us, we have all that we need. He will always give us the words to say or the ability to do what He has called us to do. Thank you Jesus for the gift of salvation and the ability to share it with others!

Reflection Questions:

  1. Who was it that first shared the gospel with you? Take a moment to reflect and remember the day that you became a disciple of Jesus Christ!

  2. Who are you helping to become a disciple of Jesus Christ? If you don’t have anyone right now, stop and ask the Lord to show you who you can begin to lead to Him!

  3. What fears do you need to lay down in order to live out the Great Commission?
