Matthew 24:10 And at that time many will fall away, and they will betray one another and hate one another. 11 And many false prophets will rise up and mislead many people. 12 And because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will become cold. 13 But the one who endures to the end is the one who will be saved.
In this scripture, Jesus talks about the end times with the disciples, warning them to be aware, to be vigilant, and to be ready. One of the most intriguing parts of this particular scripture is the word “endures”. The word endures means to “suffer” or to “remain in existence to the last.” In this context, there is the implication of a struggle, hardship, or difficulty that someone must endure. The Apostle Paul also mentions this struggle:
Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.
It’s laid out quite clearly that to follow Christ in this world is to endure hardship. However, the beautiful reward of this hardship is in Christ himself - He is our hope! He is the hope of all of the world and if we can endure the hardship of this life and live as he has called us to live, pure and holy, then we have nothing to fear. We will spend eternity with him, forever free from the pain, trials, and tribulations of this world. So let’s take Paul’s words to heart:
Galatians 6:9 Let’s not become discouraged in doing good, for in due time we will reap, if we do not become weary.
As you continue to read this chapter and reflect let’s ask ourselves:
Is there anything in my life that may keep me from being able to endure to the end?
How can I cultivate a deeper relationship with the Lord so that I continue to put all my hope and trust in him?
Is there anyone in my life that I can help encourage in their relationship with the Lord so that they can also endure to the end?
