Luke 21:1-4 - 1 He looked up and saw the rich dropping their offerings into the temple treasure. 2 He also saw a poor widow dropping in two tiny coins. 3 “I tell you the truth,” He said. “This poor widow has put in more than all of them. 4 For all these people have put in gifts out of their surplus, but she out of her poverty has put in all she had to live on.
In these first few verses of Luke twenty-one, we see Jesus observing people giving offerings at the temple. He recognizes the amount of money each person is giving and the heart with which they are giving. He sees that the rich give out of their abundance and the widow gives out of her lack but how much more meaningful was the gift from the widow's lack than that of the rich? Her gift gives insight into the faith, trust, and hope she has in the Lord to provide all that she needs.
This brief look at a widow's act of worship exemplifies the faith, trust, and hope that we should all strive for in our daily lives. To rely so heavily on God that we don’t look at our need but we only look to him. The Lord wants our everything so that he can be our everything and the only way to fully walk out our relationship with the Lord is to trust fully in him. Ask yourselves, “What area of my life do I need to trust God fully?”
Father, thank you for giving us opportunities to trust you; for opportunities to be obedient to your call. I ask that you continue to guide me into a closer relationship with you, one that is built solely on trusting you and leaning on you for every need. Father, I also ask that as I grow in this walk with you, I become a better example of putting my trust in you for others around me. Lord, you want nothing but good for us. Let us trust in you. Amen.
